About Us:
Trying To Live A Life
A Little Smarter
I want to share a bit about us. Because I have worked in the retail environment for close to two decades now and my main product line has been candies and snack foods, I am continuously seeing a cross-section of people on a daily basis that has the disadvantage of being sensitive to certain lines of food products.
Also, within blocks of my retail store is one of this country's major allergen clinics which is affiliated with a large teaching and research hospital. A continuous flow of steady customers is forwarded to me through their recommendations.
Many of these people, from children to adults, have grown up to adulthood, to middle-age or their senior years with me. Some families have 1-3 children with food allergies. I have "scores" of people in my "family" with food allergies. Each of us has tried to help the next through a difficult passage of time in their life.
Me personally,I am a severe diabetic. I am from a family of severe diabetics. Many of my relatives have died in their 40's or 50's from diabetic complications.
I grew up in my life surrounded by people battling a disease which was not understood in the medical community very well. This disease is a silent disease. Damage to your internal organs accumulates continuously and still many people do not realize that they actually have a problem.
Through trial and error, careful management of my diet and by keeping close contact with medical science both in conventional medicine and complementary (alternative) medicine, I actually managed to prevent the disease past the point in my life where many other family members had already left this life. But as with most cases of family genetics, eventually the disease did catch up with me when I was almost to the half-century mark of my life.
My intent with the information contained within this site is to pass along some common sense tips and techniques which will hopefully help you to realize that just because at age 20-30 or 40 you feel OK, you don't have any major overt symptoms and wonder what all the fuss is about- the day does come when the normal wear and tear on your body's internal organs and bodily system's does catch up with you. Don't allow yourself to believe "it only happens to the other guy."
