Alternative Therapy For Diabetes

To Maintain Good Control

On Your Diabetic Health

Alternative Therapy for diabetes is generally used as a complementary treatment program right along with the traditional medications from your conventional doctor.

For your own diabetic health, many people have reported there is a reduction of adverse reactions from their pharmaceutical medications when they have combined the two therapies.

How Does Conventional and Alternative Medicine Work Together As A Unit

There is some fields of alternative medicine which often work with the diabetic patient. Each has their own specific method of treatment, but remember the final objective in all alternative therapies is to obtain a cure by healing the body from within. In alternative medicine, the philosophy is not to mask the symptoms, but to remove the cause which will ultimately remove the symptoms. In conventional medicine, pharmaceuticals usually just offer short-term relief from the symptoms as long as you keep taking the drug.

Common Therapy Programs For The Patient

Very new and growing daily is the continuous research on type 1 diabetes in children. More and more infants and toddlers are being diagnosed daily with this disease. This current trend is going against former documented evidence of the incidence of this condition.

All of the following treatment programs are used from different fields of alternative medicine. Each specialty does emphasize a slightly different way to achieve the final goal.

  • Acupuncture has the capability of relieving the chronic pain from neuropathy(nerve damage) commonly found in your feet, legs and arms. It is also a tool for effective weight loss management by controlling your appetite. Weight loss alone will result in an increase in the effectiveness of insulin which results in easier and better control of your symptoms of diabetes.

  • Biofeedback or Guided Imagery is a learned therapy program where the patient is taught the capabilities of using the power of their own mind to reduce or remove the pain and symptoms of diabetes.

This technique has been used and tested extensively during training sessions with positive results always being shown in controlled groups. Weekly sessions for 10 weeks with a trained therapist has shown significant improvement in blood sugar levels even though no other changes were made in a patient's therapy program.

Find a certified doctor familiar with biofeedback at www.bcia.org to research this available treatment protocol.

  • Herbal therapy or Vitamins and Minerals Supplementation must be prescribed by a practitioner. There is no "one size fits all" therapy program in medicine. Calcium and Vitamin D supplementation is often advised as a preventative measure. Herbal therapy itself is very effective for routine dental care.

Berberine is a supplement that has commonly been used in China for several hundred years. It has been proven to increase the effectiveness of lowering your insulin sensitivity and reducing or eliminating many of the common side effects of pharmaceuticals. TCM or Traditional Chinese Medicine also has several therapy programs available which has been proven to have the same satisfactory results.

  • Nutrition and Diet Therapy is pretty much an obvious therapeutic marvel in the case of diabetes. Basic sound nutrition by adhering to a whole foods diet, natural ways to lower your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, the use of spices and salt substitutes plus the addition of many organic fruits and vegetables will be utilized so your body can receive the benefits of their natural healing properties.

  • Coconut sugar can be used as a direct replacement for all sweeteners on a 1:1 ratio in anything you prepare to eat. Because of its low glycemic index number, it has the capability of reducing your blood sugar spikes after ingestion.

  • Yoga- Yoga, the Sanskrit word for "union", is a practice that uses posture and breathing techniques to induce relaxation and improve strength. Although this may sound like an unusual recommendation for controlling your diabetes , the increase in blood flow, better breathing control, greater flexibility and coordination from low impact exercise all lead to better blood sugar control as a plus in your daily life.

  • Massage may seem like another unusual alternative therapy for diabetes but actually when you think about it, the capability is there for this program to work. Massage helps to reduce stress, it will help alleviate the pain from neuropathy or nerve damage and it also increases blood flow which ultimately will reduce your blood sugar levels.

Although there are many programs of natural remedies for diabetes, not every treatment is going to yield a satisfactory conclusion for every individual. Medicine does not have a 100% satisfaction rate for every patient.

Often different approaches using natural remedies may have to be utilized until you can find one that works for your particular situation.

Any effective Home Remedy for any ailment will always include certain dietary and lifestyle changes.

Remember though, for the best of possible results, home remedies should be seen as a supplement and not a substitute to conventional medicine. Continue to see your original doctor of conventional medicine but explain your full treatment plan to both doctors so you will end up with the best end result for your particular situation..
