Common Allergy Symptoms:
What To Watch For

Sometimes common allergy symptoms can be very misleading at first glance.

Have you felt absolutely miserable all day long? Tired and achy joints, sore throat, stuffy nose and all the constant sneezing and coughing. How do you ever expect to get any sleep tonight? All of these sound like a shopping list for symptoms commonly associated with allergies - or wait, maybe I have a cold!

Is It An Allergy Or A Cold

One of the most frequent questions a doctor hears in the spring is "How do I know if it is my allergies or just a cold?" Although there are many symptoms shared between a cold and a food allergy, there is one very important difference - itchiness. An allergy will always show some form of itchiness with your other symptoms. Usually with a food allergy this will be centered somewhere on your face, around the eyes, throat or nose area. Without the itch factor, most doctor's will recommend - "treat the cold!"

Common Symptoms of Food Allergies

  • Itchy eyes, ears, nose and throat

  • Sneezing

  • Sore throat

  • Runny/Stuffy nose

  • Coughing

  • Post-nasal drip

Remember not everyone will feel all of these allergy symptoms during a flare-up but a combination of one or two plus the "Itch" factor should trigger some type of investigation into your current diet plan. Somewhere, something you ate a few hours to a day ago did contain an ingredient resulting in your outbreak of common allergy symptoms.
