Crockpot applesauce is great for the busy person that loves the homemade version but just does not have to time to devote to preparing it from scratch. So whether you prefer the chunky variety or the smooth, this version is available for you.

Ingredients

8 servings = 1 cup each = 70 calories

  • Rome Beauty apples, approximately 6 large or 10 small
  • 2 T. lemon juice
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp grated nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Peel and thinly slice the apples. Place in crockpot. Combine the lemon juice and water together and then pour over the apples. Cover and cook until apples are very soft and tender on low heat (approximately 6-8 hours). Pour from the crockpot into a large bowl. Add the spices and vanilla. Stir until blended. (If you prefer smooth applesauce, place in a blender and pulse gently till smooth.) Pack into jars, cover and refrigerate. Serve warm or chilled.
