Good Cardio Workout
For Diabetic Health

Maintaining a good cardio workout for diabetic health you know is advantageous but are you just so tired of that treadmill or exercise bike? You know you need to do this, but boredom is slowly winning over persuasion to keep your performance going.

Keep all your good intentions in gear by changing up your routine with some of the following:

  • Dancing is exciting, fun, enjoyable and a whirlwind of movement. Hear the operative word in there-movement!

Whenever you can, join a local dance company, grab a partner and hit the floors. With time and patience, your body will adjust to the extra movement and beg for more.

If lack of time or a lack of a suitable partner is an issue, then just turn on the radio and just move right along with the music in your own office or living room.

  • Bicycling can be changed up for an exercise bike because who says a bike must always stay in the same spot? Fresh air, sunshine (build your all-important Vitamin D levels to help your immune system) good friends and scenery all make this one workout where the time just flies by

  • Swimming for most people is their #1 choice of a good cardio workout because of the decreased stress and resistance levels, easy and quick movements but still you can be guaranteed to see results.

A good cardio workout though does not mean just swimming laps in a pool either. Join a water aerobics class for a good way to shape up and stay fit. With the aid of flotation devices and kickboards (no extra expense is needed- I use empty detergent bottles or clorox bottles), you can safely rev up your workout and still feel energized and ready for more.

  • Organized classes can pretty much be for anything your wishes desire. Scout around and try yoga, kickboxing, aerobics, karate or any other specialized classes you can find in your neighborhood. Find something though that gets your body moving and your heart pumping. You can rotate between different styles or just try them all and see which one you prefer to keep on a continuous basis.

  • By joining a local sports league (adult sports are everywhere now-you just have to look for a group) age is no longer an excuse or limitation. Check with a senior baseball league, touch football, golf, bicycling club, swimming aerobics group, bird watching or nature hikes. This list can be endless because it all depends on the opportunities which are available where you live.

  • Do you like to do something good for yourself while you are helping others also? Then become a volunteer! Check around your neighborhood and find out your possibilities such as a tour guide at a local museum, dog walker and cat groomer for the local humane league, "Meals On Wheels" delivery driver, local library to volunteer to straighten shelves, the amusement park as a parking attendant and on and on.

All it takes is find the local attractions in your area, call them and find out if they have volunteer opportunities. Or check with the local municipal building, churches, food banks, scout troops or prayer clubs. Any organized meeting group in your hometown can usually offer some suggestions on what else is available. Many of these small operations are totally dependent on the generosity of their volunteers.

So a good cardio workout does not have to be repetitive or boring. Mix it up and use the treadmill only on rainy days, join a dance group for 1 or 2 days a week, take the dog and the bicycle to the park paths on sunny days. Relieving boredom in your routine is one of the best steps you can take to keep your mind active and your body interested in continuing your new program.
