Good Dental Health: Money In Your Bank For Your Future

by Kathi
(Pennsylvania)

Good dental health in your mouth includes a set of healthy teeth and gums which were designed to last you for an entire lifetime with proper routine care and a consistent schedule of frequent check-ups. Many people though don’t take the time for routine maintenance and therefore end up with the inflated expense from a series of reconstructive visits needing a dentist to fix dental cavities and periodontal disease. All of this though can be thwarted with a good consistent brushing program and with the aid of a few of nature’s healing herbs.

For a diabetic, good dental care will help prevent the symptoms of poor glucose control which leads to chronic stress and the reduced efficiency of your immune system. Going full circle, poor healthy habits leads to an increase of bacterial and viral infections of the mouth. A large surging population of bacteria in the mouth leads to increased cavities, mouth ulcers, gingivitis and advanced periodontal disease. Ultimately heart disease, diabetes, stroke and increased chances of pneumonia become normal. Therefore good dental health and its promotion is one leading factor which can override all those numerous forms of dental repairs.

What Should You Keep In Your Medicine Cabinet

Ongoing research all over the world is leading to newer and easier methods to retain good dental health. Pick up a few of these, incorporate them into your daily life and the savings alone from reduced dental work is worth its weight in gold in your own pocketbook.

  • Herbed gum packs are used as a tissue-healing therapy for tender gums. An effective combination of equal amounts of calendula flower, goldenseal root, turmeric and willow bark stirred into clean water to make a paste is an excellent start to a healing program. Spread this paste all along the tooth and gum line and just let it sit.

  • A herbal toothpaste with maximum benefits will include an astringent (which gives a warming effect to the gums) to tighten the gums and includes an anti-bacterial effect.

  • Many people love to use a mouthwash as part of their daily dental program. There are several good herbal combinations which can easily be mixed and prepared by you yourself. Prepare a cup of good quality green or black tea then mix in some unsweetened cranberries (juiced). Hold this liquid in your mouth for 1-2 minutes, gargle and spit it out. You have effectively just fought off a whole host of bacterial germs, possible future tooth decay and placque build-up within your mouth.

  • After a diagnosis of mild to moderate periodontal disease, drinking a cup daily of gotu kola tea, brewed normally with water will lend you some of the all important antibacterial-fighting properties needed to heal the gum tissue both above and below the tooth and gum line.

All of these above preparations are available at your local health food or even many local drug stores. Although herbs are not a substitute for that yearly dental cleaning given by a professional dentist, over time, this program will lead to easier - and less costly - dental checkups being necessary for the permanent care of your healthy teeth and gums.
