Green Beans and Onions

Green beans and onions is a simple tasty side dish that can be used as an accompaniment for any type of meal. High in taste, low in calories, low on the glycemic index (means will not affect your blood sugar levels very much) and all with no sugar. A perfect combination for a healthful start on any meal. If you would like to make it the main course, cut up a chunk of turkey ham into cubes and add it for a delicious entree.

Ingredients

  • 1 Lb fresh green beans, ends snapped and broke in half (or use a bag of frozen green beans)
  • 2 cups Homemade chicken broth
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp. celery seed
  • 1/4 tsp fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 T. melted butter
  • salt to taste (optional)

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium pan. Add homemade chicken broth and beans. Cook ten minutes at a slow boil. Add the onion and celery seed. Cook 10 more minutes. Add salt, pepper and butter. Serve hot.
