Stay Away From The Prepacked Salads In A Convenience Store

Occasionally I cheat just a little and pick just a little bit of something from a salad bar.
Of course I know better but I always say to myself one or two bites isn't going to make a difference. Especially since it was only a couple of years ago I found out what it was that was causing my asthma attacks so much more frequently.
You see, I've always had a garden. It was my tension controller, exercise, a chance to forget the housework or just a few hours in the sun working the soil and making some magic happen. It didn't hurt that I loved vegetables too.
But with advancing age, the neighborhood kids now think dinosaur when they find out how old I am, I am slowing down a lot. A lot more health problems and I just can't take it anymore.
My youngest son does my grocery shopping now. I am too darn stubborn to get in one of those wheelchairs and admit defeat. But walking through an entire store, there's just no way.
So every once in a while he comes home with something that just looks so good I have to have some of it. The last time I did that, I really thought it was going to be just that--the last!
Days and days of no air, hard breathing, heart pounding, the shakes, the sweats, first cold, then hot. It just seemed like everything was going wrong.
My inhaler's could not keep up. The direction's say 4 times per day, I was using it every few minutes. I just couldn't keep my airway open.
Yes, you've figured it out, I'm stubborn. I would not call the ambulance - couldn't have talked to them anyway there at first.
Eventually though, everything did stabilize. I got yelled at by everybody. My concession, my daughter convinced me to sign up for Life Alert. I did. At least if something does happen again, I might push the button.
Now, if somebody asks me was that salad worth it-- you better believe it wasn't!
