The Joys of Aging and Body Tolerance Breakdown...

by Paula
(South Carolina)

Among other things, I am now allergic to Angel Soft toilet tissue. I recently discovered this when I was using toilet tissue as a substitute for facial tissue since it is less expensive and most of us are trying to save money however we can. It was a HUGE mistake. The allergy first manifested itself on my eyelids, around my eyes and on the bridge of my nose. After a visit to a dermatologist I started eliminating things that touched my face and finally winnowed it down to the toilet paper. I then realized it was also affecting my nether regions, although not as badly as my face. So, here I am trying to figure out what to do next. It's not like you can do without it! As I get older - I am now 77 - there are a growing number of things that I have developed a sensitivity to, including a number of medications, a few food allergies and the spring grasses I have been allergic to since I was a teenager. And now the ultimate insult - toilet paper. The question now is how do you deal with this reaction? Are there hypoallergenic toilet tissues available? That will be the next step. In the meantime, I have taken to use of antiseptic wipes and frequent hand washing. It has helped but does not completely solve the problem. More research is the next step.

Paula, I can sympathize - your story pretty much sounds like me also.

I also never had these problems, but get older and older and the list just keeps growing longer and longer.

So, I love your attitude about all this. I just go with the flow and figure out how to eliminate all the curve balls life keeps throwing my direction also.

Good luck to you!
P.S. Angel Soft is the second from the top of my list. Charmin products is the worst for me. I hear that from a lot of people too so I would tread carefully there.

Next, I just found Marcal Small Steps not long ago and switched to it. It's a little bit more expensive but I don't have even a quarter of the problems I have with all the rest.

Scott's 1000 count works pretty well for me also but I'm spoiled. I appreciate the double ply and Scott's 1000 count is only a single ply. So which is my choice - gotta have the double ply. Marcal wins.
