What Is Diabetes:
Differentiating The Types
For Accurate Diagnosis
When asking what is diabetes, most people have no idea the answer is so long, so involved and that it has so many twists and turns. Many people even allow depression and anxiety to creep in and overcome their good common sense.
Diabetes, put simply, is a disease with either of these two common characteristics. A person's body can have multiple reasons for the malfunction but every case of diabetes has one of the two following conditions:
- the person's body is incapable of converting the sugars (glucose) in the foods they eat into energy... OR
- your pancreas is not producing enough insulin for you to get the energy you need from your food.
Therefore your body is showing the pancreas no longer has the capability of supplying your body with any or maybe enough insulin for you to retain normal blood glucose levels. This breakdown can lead to symptoms affecting your heart, kidneys, liver, eyes, joints and muscles plus other related conditions.
- New on the horizon: It has been definitely proven by a double-blind case study that a new and never before suggested variation of diabetes is showing in many patients world-wide. Entirely due to environmental factors, called electropollution, type 3 diabetes is an ever-growing risk to much of the world's population because of our increasing use of electricity and power generated facilities in our every day environment.
The Pancreas' Role In Determining What Is Diabetes
The pancreas, the large organ in the back of the abdominal cavity behind the stomach, is responsible for the
manufacture, storage and releasing insulin into the body for the purpose of
regulating the levels of glucose in the bloodstream.
Insulin is the mode of transportation for glucose to get into every cell in our body. Glucose is needed as our body's source of fuel for energy. Each is inter-dependent on the other.

Types Of Diabetes
There is 3 main types of diabetes. These are:
Other lesser known conditions do exist. It is also possible for some people to show a combination of two different types of diabetes. Symptoms, treatments, complications and the cause of diabetes though should always be screened and handled by a medical doctor.
Diabetes itself though needs to be put into perspective. Many times it comes on so slow, especially for the type 2 diabetic, and the person really feels pretty much OK, except for a few minor little nuisance symptoms, that disease prevention is pretty much a low priority for many individuals.
But the reality of your life, whether you are a type 1, type 2 or are in the throes of gestational diabetes, is you no longer can have anything and everything you want, at any time, or in any quantities. This means you no longer get to stuff yourself with pancakes, gravy, biscuits, cakes and pies, doughnuts and candy plus many others on a non-stop basis. Many people have the attitude I will just eat what I want continuously and then take extra insulin, extra pills, or whatever else my doctor gave me to bring my sugars back down.

But the reality, over time, you are still damaging your body's organs. Your primary goal here on this site is to learn how to prevent the high sugar spikes, and then supplement with your pills and insulin as needed.
No one is asking you to give up all of your favorites, all of the time.
What I am asking though is you learn how to enjoy your favorites occasionally and still maintain some semblance of daily control.
It is possible - it actually isn't really all that hard. One of the easiest ways is by utilizing a new lifestyle plan called the glycemic index or the glycemic load life plan. A low glycemic lifestyle which follows through on the basics of the glycemic index can and does prevent diabetes. Alternatively, some people prefer to combine this with the lifestyle plan known as the glycemic load lifestyle plan. Check out both and see which one works better for you and your current daily lives.
Many people now are also finding out that care and safety can be obtained through the use of alternative medicine by adding certain foods, herbs and spices to their every day diet. Commonly, this type of diabetes natural cure is used in conjunction with your treatment program by your regular doctor. Never take it upon yourself to start changing, adding and subtracting medications and herbs without the knowledge of your doctor.
So although living with diabetes and striving for the motivation for continuous care for your diabetes can be difficult, education is the key factor which will allow you to recognize the early symptoms of diabetes so you can learn just exactly what is diabetes. Verify which type of diabetes you have, learn its basics of care and then follow through the aid with your health care team. This will aid you in knowing the diabetic basics so you can live a long and healthy life.
